Meet the Coaches

The Putney Ski club is an all-volunteer organization, including our amazing coaches.

Mark Tarmy is a long-time ski instructor and is very committed to making sure everyone has fun on skis. One of the longest serving coaches of the Putney BKL League, Mark’s children have now grown up, moved away, moved back and are anxious to start their own kids skiing! Mark is also the race schedule coordinator for Putney Ski Club and the Southern Vermont Race Series.

Zach Caldwell is an internationally recognized expert in cross country ski preparation and waxing, as well as a world-class coach. He is committed to fostering competitive and recreational skiing in Putney. He is the owner of West Hill Shop and Caldwell Sport, yet still finds time to coach some of the BKL Thursday practices and lend his immense expertise to the team.

Sam Quintal grew up in Fairbanks Alaska skiing all the time. Then he spent almost 20 years living in drearily warm places without enough snow to ski (though having a blast playing viola in a string quartet). He was very excited to dive back into skiing a couple years ago and bring his two daughters along for the ride! In addition to coaching, Sam answers the phones and emails at PSC headquarters.
